1. When the detailed spoilers for M.A.D. and ATttD (them making out, Logan asking V to Catalina, Logan bringing the drugs, Veronica finding out the whole rape thing, being okay with D, making out with Logan not much later, etc.) came out, everyone cried foul, called them foilers, said they were horribly out of character and there was no way that they could possibly happen and work. And yet those spoilers were correct and for most people they did work. Very, very, very well. So, as ludicrous as some (most) of these spoilers seem, I do think it's quite possible that the episodes might actually turn out to be as good as the buzz is saying. Yes, some of the dialogue may be stilted and not all that, but there has been past dialogue which if you look at it on paper, doesn't come across well, but WILL with good acting and direction.
2. I don't intend to watch any part of the eps until the end because I refuse to watch the upcoming L/P, V/P stuff unless there truly is a method to the madness and a light at the end of the tunnel. With that said, yes, there is a part of me that still believes we will get something at the very end and I'm waiting to see if that happens. The reason that I'm leaning towards it happening more now is BECAUSE of all of the LoVe spoilers. Now, you all know I'm not a Pollyanna; you all know that I have an 'expect the worst' philosophy, so you know that this coming from me isn't just me putting on some rose-colored glasses and ignoring reality. I really, truly see a potential pattern to all of this that works for LoVe.
Let's look at this info:
Logan/Parker ...
1) He's seemingly all crazy and in love with her, doing super-romantic things (like the bday cake).
2) He wants to spend summer with Dick surfing and not with Parker. (Now, I wonder if the frequent-flyer miles discussion in ep 19 comes from Veronica giving Parker and/or Logan advice on "making it work." Regardless, it means that, initially, Logan did NOT want to spend his summer with Parker.)
3) We know that in episode 19, it's made clear that he's still in love with Veronica.
Okay now, sing along with me ... one of these things is not like the other. Moving on.
Veronica/Shithead ...
1) In eps 14, 15 and the little we know of 16, Veronica is not happy about Logan/Parker. I know some did not see the subtext from KB, fine, it was clearly there in the script, the dialogue, the camera zooming in on her face, etc. Whether you bought it from KB (I did, personally), it was clearly there in the script. THREE EPISODES IN A ROW! The third being after two months of them dating.
2) Veronica tells Shithead that she just wants to be friends. She hooks up with him, yes, after he kisses her, but this is RIGHT after she's upset about seeing Logan and Parker all in loooooovvvve.
3) Veronica is gung-ho and happy as a clam with Shithead the way we never saw her with any other guy, from the spoilers, jumping into things, including him in everything.
4) Veronica tells Logan after dating Shithead for almost a month (with the oh so happiness!) that things are completely and totally over with she and Logan and they'll never be together again after he does something she finds heinous. Okay, so WHY would she tell Logan that unless, oh, there was an expectation that they'd be together again (despite being oh so happy with Shithead) before Logan did the "heinous" thing?
Now, again, sing along with me ... one of these things is not like the other.
In other words, it sure as heck seems like what we MAY be getting in these episodes is Logan and Veronica so damned and determined to prove that they are over one another and can move on and be happy, damnit!! that they are lying to themselves, trying so hard to prove that these are happy, wonderful, perfect relationships they are in now, so there! Hah! I mean, the Logan/Parker we've heard is soooooooooo over the top and out of character. The Veronica/Shithead stuff we've heard is soooooooooo over the top and out of character. Yet ... look at the dynamics of those things: so much revolves around the Logan/Veronica relationship. The start of the L/P romance revolved all around Veronica, how Veronica felt about it, how it affected Veronica. And based on promos, pics, spoilers, the start of the V/P relationship all revolves around Logan, Logan's relationship with Parker, how it affects Veronica, etc. Parker is upset that Logan wants to spend the summer with Dick and not her, what do we get? Her going to Veronica! So we get Veronica's reaction. Even the sex tape, that all winds up (based on spoilers) being mostly emotion-wise about how it affects Logan and Veronica's relationship. Logan sees the tape, we get a reaction. Logan kicks Shithead's ass. Logan goes after the guy who really did it, we get Veronica's reaction. Good or bad, almost everything we're hearing about relationship-wise with the three pairs revolves around the pair who are not together.
Also -- and the people I've spoken with on the phone can attest to this -- ever since Shithead was introduced and we heard about KB so gung-ho about it, I've contended that I felt a possible V/P relationship would only be played one of two ways.
1) Veronica clearly going through the motions and actually realizing that this is NOT the type of relationship that works for her.
2) Veronica and Shithead in a relationship and it being happy and wonderful and totally, totally over the top in that happy, happy, joy, joy. Why? Because KB would likely play their scenes with so much enthusiasm to show fans how much better Veronica is with Shithead than she is with Logan (as she attempted to do with Duncan). The problem here is that KB doesn't do over-the-top well, she goes TOO overboard that it comes across as fake. So, if the writers/RT are aware of this -- and how can they not be at this point? -- they write the V/P over-the-top, along with KB playing it over-the-top, and what happens is that viewers see a Veronica who is so going over board that obviously it's not real and instead is yet another attempt by Veronica to be "normal."
I would have much preferred the first, but I thought the second scenario much more likely in light of KB's attitude. Based on spoilers, it sure looks like they're going for option B ... as I expected.
Now a word about Guyspy/LiveLongLogan, I've been emailing him. I believe him (and have unlocked his posts); I understand why he created a separate screenname and I believe that he truly believes his source, whether the info is 100% accurate, we won't know until the eps air. Part of why I believe him now is that even with all of the small things I know, based on the whole Rob is trying to keep the final L/V thing super, super private that Guyspy said, his spoilers still make sense (esp. with RT specifically mentioning something "glorious"). Furthermore, not one solitary spoiler he gave actually contradicts our regular source. On the surface they seem to, but lay them all out and dissect a bit and they don't. Also, our regular source has admitted they haven't seen it all, they don't know 100% what's going to happen. So looking at the spoilers from Guyspy, our source, spoilers out there ... they don't contradict. So, it's possible.
Again, I'm not watching it; I already have some VD, L/K, L/H stuff burned into my brain; I DO NOT want the same for Logan/Parker and especially Veronica/Shithead, so I'm going to wait until it's all said and done and IF there is that "glorious" moment and it works that shows real promise for a potential season four or for fanfic to flow from, I'll ask some kind soul who downloaded the episodes to give me the exact times of the Logan (non-Parker, non-romantic V/P scenes that Logan happens to be in) scenes and I'll watch those. But until it's all over, I'm sticking with my happy canon of a happy ending with the intimacy scene in bed in PT&T.
Again, we never know, but I did want to point out that (a) seemingly ridiculous spoilers HAVE come out in the past and turned out to be great episodes and (b) the L/P and V/P stuff DOES seem to be DELIBERATELY over-the-top and revolving around LoVe, almost as if both Logan and Veronica are trying to prove something to themselves by going over-the-top. Sigh, with all of this said, and even if this is the method to the madness, I still believe that RT has chosen such a horrible route to take LoVe this season. I truly, honestly do, and no amount of good storytelling can make up for it. There were so many ways he could have gone with Logan and Veronica after season one, even after season two. Yet, if the above is the case here (proving that the L/P and V/P stuff is all part of the bigger arc of the LoVe relationship), he continues to take one of the worst possible paths in creating "drama" for this couple, all the while ignoring the character-laden, indepth, emotional and fulfilling drama that exists in the characters and situations he created in season one. Double sigh.
Of course, this could all just be fanwanking to a ridiculous degree and I'll realize four weeks and one day from now that Rob got one final gotcha! on me for even attempting to believe that there was a method to the madness.
