Since plagiarism is actually a punishable offence - with penalties that could extend to the board if prosecuted - it has always been our policy to delete fanfictions that have proven to be plagiarized. However, we have never written up guidelines for what plagiarism actually entails until now.
Since the grey area between fanfiction (making a story with someone else's imaginative property) and plagiarism (copying the writing of someone else's imaginative property) is so murky we decided to clarify The LoVe Shack's policy for all writers. This doesn't only help us protect your work but it also helps you protect and monitor yourselves.
You need to read The Fanfic Ethics section we've added to our Fanfic rules if you're planning on posting. Not only will it clarify what this board's interpretation of plagiarism, it also helps you monitor your own writing and defend yourself when warranted. It is also important that you read it because from this moment forward we expect new stories to include a standard Disclaimer with the first post.
