There has been a LOT of discussion on bashing characters, specifically bashing Veronica and how it is against the rules here. However, bashing and character discussion are being confused, I think.

I don't think anyone on this board hates Veronica and when talking about the character and her negative traits, she is not being bashed. Instead, posters are discussing the character and issues they have with the portrayal this season. Not bashing. Bashing a character is ...
Ripping them a new one with no reason
Complaining about their existence on the show
Insulting them for fun
Wishing they would die, go away, etc.
Ranting about them with no explanation for the why of the rant
Ranting about them (or their actions) without any frustration at how they are being written
In other words, the way Duncan is treated on this board. THAT is character bashing (and allowed on this board). No one makes apologies for not liking Duncan; no one makes excuses for why they don't like him or fanwanks reason to explain why he is doing things they don't like. No one complains about negative aspects of his character with frustration and bemoaning the such.
All of the above is done for Veronica because we all LOVE Veronica on this board, some (many?) are just frustrated with how she is being portrayed this season. That shows an extension of our love for the character. If we didn't love her, we'd just say: Veronica is a bitch, I'm over her. No one has said that, no one has gone even remotely near that and if they did, they would get a week's banning. There IS discussion on how Veronica is acting like a bitch and it's frustrated discussion, but it is DISCUSSION, not bashing.
Let's look at another character discussed. This one has been called an asshole, a jerk, a jackass, obnoxious, in your face, cruel, snarky, treats others like crap, etc. on a very, very, very regular basis. This character is Logan. The negative aspects of Logan's character are discussed on a regular basis, but we KNOW Logan as such and love him despite these negative qualities, so when such comments are made they aren't made with frustration or anger because we don't get where our beloved character is coming from. We know; that's Logan. Such comments are made with exasperated and/or amused affection.
The discussion of Veronica's character flaws are done (mostly) with frustration and anger because some of us don't get where are beloved character is coming from. And that right there is the key. Beloved character. If we didn't love her, we wouldn't care, we wouldn't discuss issues about the character that bother us and try and figure out why they are happening or even why they are bothering us.
Character discussion vs. character bashing. There is a difference. Next time you think that Veronica is being bashed on this board, read a post that discusses Duncan and substitute Veronica's name and vice versa and you will clearly, clearly see the difference between discussion vs. bashing.

I hate Veronica. Will always hate Veronica. Die, Veronica, die.

I really don't get Veronica this season. It's frustrating because I loved her so much in season one, but she's so bitchy and cold now. I don't like not liking Veronica.
