And because of that increasing negativity, many have noticed that The LoVe Shack has become less about love and more pro-Logan, anti-Veronica attitude. Not good.
It is likely that some of the posters who are very critical of Veronica and Logan are responding to the general negativity that is pervasive on the board. Since we have a tone that is already negative it is easy for people to take that one step further and start criticizing the main characters which unfortunately has been happening and could very easily lead into bashing ... and bashing of Veronica, which is against the rules.
The moderators have decided to take a look at why the board is so negative to begin with and we've come up with a simple fact. The mods and the admin on the board have a tremendous influence on the LoVe Shack's atmosphere. Posters look to us and follow our lead. And our lead lately has been down the path of negativity. And unfortunately, I (bad admin, bad admin!) have been one of the more vocal people leading the parade. Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion and that goes for me too, but the frustration and disappointment that I have expressed regarding the new season is so pervasive that, again, practically every one of my posts about season two is all a-tingly with the negative vibe.
The bottom-line is that because many of us (including myself -- I may be the most guilty party of all) have begun to form an opinion of the show based on spoilers, without allowing the possibility of context making it all work once the show starts airing. A lot of people have gotten into commenting on spoilers and if people are enjoying that aspect of the show, that's great. However, in the process, the board has basically turned into a Rob Thomas/Veronica Mars bitch session where people complain that they do not like the direction the show is going even though not a single episode has aired yet. Not good. (Sigh, very bad admin, very, very bad admin!)
And unfortunately, for some, this venting has begun to focus on Veronica (Spoiler Start) because of the way she is treating our lovely Logan. It is really easy to paint her as the villain when she is munching scones with Donut and macking on him. None of us our happy that LoVe are not together (End Spoiler), but until we actually see the show itself, it's only fair to give the benefit of the doubt before the majority of us start publicly criticizing. One of my moderators bluntly told me: My point is that we should consider how we got to such a negative space on a board that used to be all about our love for the characters and show.
And she is absolutely, 100% correct. Again, everyone is entitled to their opinions and everyone should have a place to express them. However, if we are going to try to turn the tide (Spoiler Start) in the next difficult weeks (as episodes begin to air and we actually have to see Veronica kiss Donut - yuck) (End Spoiler) to make the board a positive, fun place to be, I think we will all have to be more cognizant of the attitude and tone that we portray on the board.
This is in no way an attack on anyone. As I said before everyone is entitled to their opinion and are free to express it as long as they are respectful of other members. But, I would like to see this be a fun, happy board, which it does not seem to be currently. Perhaps by making these opinions public and giving everyone the chance to think on this subject we can say no to negativity going forward.
If this sounds preachy, I apologize in advance, but please bear in mind, that this whole discussion among the moderators came about mostly because of MY negativity, so I am by far the one most to blame. I am trying very hard to take this to heart and hope that any of you who have joined me on the negative path decide to try and be a little less Negative Nellie and a bit more Mary Sunshine as I am attempting to do myself.
